VS : The Brow Gel Edition

Eyebrows can be unruly and pesky little demons. However, they are one of the most important features on our faces, the shape of your eyebrows can change an entire look as they frame your face. Eyebrows can make you look sweet and innocent or sexy and empowering. The power of the brows is amazing. To ensure that your lovely eyebrow look stays in place all day I've got a couple of products that can help. I have two options for you both high-end and drugstore - Benefit's Speed Brow and Maybelline's Brow Drama.

Benefit's Speed Brow is a quick-set brown gel which works to tint, tame and set eyebrows as quickly as possible. It's designed to give a natural-looking finish in a short amount of time. It comes in one shade that is made to be suitable for all eyebrows. It is packaged in a tiny 3g tube with a small spool brush which is ideal for taming the brows.
I really like this brow gel as it really is a handy product to have in your collection. The clue is in the name, this really is a super quick fix for your eyebrows. For those lazy mornings it is ideal just to swipe over your eyebrows with light, upward strokes. Since it only comes in one shade it may not be suited to everyone as it is actually quite weak in colour and I mainly just use it as a gel to set my brows for the day after using a different product on them such as an eyebrow pencil. I find that it does last me all day and my eyebrows do stay in place without feeling like they're glued down. The packaging is really quite cute and dainty, saying that the product is too expensive to not receive much product. At £13.00 it is perhaps a bit steep for those of you just after a brow gel to set your brows in place.

The alternative option would be Maybelline's Brow Drama sculpting mascara. This aims to comb through every hair in your eyebrows to achieve a natural and even finish. The formula is designed so that it is not to clump, flake or streak. It comes in three different shades - Deep Blonde, Medium Brown and Dark Brown. I picked up Medium Brown as it is more suited to my hair colour. The brush is particularly interesting as it is a detailing ball brush to ensure that no hairs are missed. This product comes in a 12ml tube so it is definitely larger than the Benefit Speed Brow.

I think this brow mascara is pretty good. It is useful as a finish to your eyebrow look or used on its own for a quick and easy subtle brow look. The three different shades have been chosen well which means that you are bound to find one that will suit you based on your hair colour. Compared to Benefit gel, this is a lot heavier. I can feel it on my eyebrows whenever I have it on which slightly bothers me, but not too much. Delightedly, this does also last all day and trust me; your brows will not dare to budge. I am not too keen on the brush with the product though. The ball brush is definitely handy in making sure that the product has managed to reach all of the hairs, but the product gathers quite heavily on it so the rest of the brush is a bit useless. Nonetheless, at £4.99 we can't really complain too much as it does the job of keeping your brows in place as well as adding a bit of colour.

L- Benefit Speed Brow, R- Maybelline Brow Drama

Overall, I think that these are both good products that successfully tame eyebrows around the world. However, I personally wouldn't use either of these products on their own too regularly unless I'm going for a more subtle look as the colour payoff isn't good enough in my opinion. I probably won't repurchase the Benefit Speed Brow as I feel the Maybelline Brow Drama does a good enough job at setting my brows for the day. I will be on the lookout for a new eyebrow product that will provide me with some more colour as well as setting them.

Have you tried either of these products? Which brow products would you recommend?

  1. It's so difficult getting the right colour isn't it! I am a redhead with light blondish brows so constantly need to dye them or use gels etc. I find benefit a bit hit and miss actually (I know that might be blasphemous in beauty blogging world!) but I do really like the look of the Maybelline one. Lovely blog, Abby! Just found you blog hopping so you have a new follower in me and I'll be back to check out your future posts!

    1. It really is! I actually agree with you, I usually tend to heavily research Benefit products before I buy them as they can be a bit hit and miss like you said. Thank you so much Alice that means a lot! :) x

    1. That's basically what I did, I still tend to fill in my brows and just use one of these as a setting gel :) x
